Costs in the costs tab

Berta's costs tab bundles all your vehicle's spending in one place – whether it's a car, motorcycle or camper. You see monthly cost bars, average consumption, cost per km, monthly fuel cost and total costs – so you quickly spot where your money goes and when something is out of the ordinary.

What exactly does the costs tab show?

The costs tab evaluates your entries automatically:

• Monthly cost bars – your spending per month at a glance.
• Average consumption – in l/100 km (needs at least two fill-ups with odometer readings).
• Cost per km – how much each kilometer driven costs you.
• Monthly fuel cost – your fuel spending per month.
• Total costs – the sum of all recorded costs.

How do I record recurring costs?

Use a cost event for this. It has a category, a billing period and an optional recurrence. That way you capture regular expenses like insurance or road tax cleanly, without re-entering them every month.

Why is my average consumption missing?

Average consumption only appears once at least two fill-ups with odometer readings exist. If it's missing, include the odometer on your next fill-ups. For exactly how this works, see Fuel log.

Which currencies and units are there?

Berta works in EUR (default), CHF or USD and shows consumption in metric or imperial. Set both to match your country so all the breakdowns are correct.

How do I fill the costs tab with data?

The costs tab evaluates what you capture. Enter fill-ups with liters, price and odometer, and Berta calculates consumption and fuel costs. Record workshop visits as a service and recurring fixed costs as a cost event. The more complete your entries, the more meaningful the cost bars, cost per km and total costs.

How do cost data help at resale?

If you want, a cost overview flows into the resale PDF. That transparently shows the buyer your vehicle's running costs – a plus for trust and a good price. More under Resale PDF.

What about business and private trips?

Berta keeps trips in their own place: the logbook records individual journeys with date, route, start and end odometer and a category – business, private or commute – and exports a yearly PDF. It works off the same odometer readings as the costs tab, so consistent mileage entries improve both. See Trip logbook.

How do I read the breakdowns correctly?

The monthly cost bars show you fluctuations across the year – for example an expensive month with a tire swap and service. Cost per km relates your total spending to the distance driven and is good for comparing different periods or vehicles. Average consumption helps you separate fuel-related costs from fixed costs. The longer you record, the more reliable these figures become.
