Getting started with Berta

Berta is your digital vehicle record on your phone – for cars, motorcycles and campers: you photograph documents, Berta reads out the data, reminds you about inspections and services, and generates a service-history PDF when you sell. Setup takes four steps and is free for iOS and Android – 2 vehicles on the free plan, more with Berta Pro.

How do I set Berta up?

Onboarding walks you through four steps:

1. Pick your language – German or English. You can switch it any time in settings.
2. Decide on AI consent – choose whether Berta may read your photographed documents automatically. This decision is changeable later in settings.
3. Add your first vehicle – pick the vehicle type (car, motorcycle or camper), then photograph your registration or enter the details manually.
4. Done – your vehicle lands in the garage and you can start capturing records.

What does the registration scan read out?

When you photograph your registration, Berta pre-fills these fields automatically: make, model, year, country, plate, VIN, engine, first registration date, body type and color. You review the suggestions and confirm them before anything is saved.

For the country there are quick choices: DE, AT, CH, GB, FR, IT, NL and PL. Any ISO country is accepted; "UK" is treated as GB.

If a VIN looks implausible, Berta shows a warning – but this never blocks saving.

Do I strictly need AI consent?

No. Capture still works without consent; the fields simply aren't read out automatically and you type them yourself. If you give consent, Berta extracts the data from your photos. Fields with a confidence below 80% are highlighted for review, and you always confirm before anything is stored.

How do I add more vehicles?

In the garage you switch between your vehicles with a tap – cars, motorcycles and campers mixed together. From your vehicle photo, Berta also draws a personal AI illustration that appears on the vehicle card. The free plan includes 2 vehicles; Berta Pro raises the limit.

What should I do next?

Once your vehicle is set up, these first steps pay off:

• Capture receipts: photograph fuel receipts, workshop invoices or enter the odometer reading. More under Capture.
• Set up reminders: Berta knows your country's inspection intervals and calculates your first inspection automatically from the first-registration date.
• Keep a fuel log: after two fill-ups with odometer readings, Berta calculates your average consumption.

That way your vehicle data is complete and clear from day one – and you're ready for a future sale with a gap-free history.
